News & Events » We covered Mrs Jeffery in glue!
Mrs Jeffery, once again, forgot her age when she agreed to create a totem with children in our nursery. Children had lots of fun covering her with glue probably as much as they had fun using glue to decorate their American Indian totem.
Mr Maker (cbeebies children’s program) would have been proud of her! As part of our “round the world” theme, Pipkins Nursery (Shipbourne) children were exploring the American continent this week. As part of their fun, Mrs Jeffery and Mrs Murphy decided to create a totem so that children can play “Wild West” games and learn about foreign cultures first hand.
“You know, I don’t think I had this much fun in years!” Mrs Jeffery said after her Wednesday session. She ended up going to her daughter’s prize giving ceremony covered with glue. “ I wonder, what other parents thought, I was doing all day”, she smiled.
The work started on Monday and Tuesday when Mrs Foad, Mrs Murphy and of course Mrs Jeffery involved children in designing and creating their very first totem.
The work was well on its way on Monday and Tuesday when the main frame was complete.
But the real silliness only started on Wednesday when Mrs Jeffery and children started decorating the main frame. For once, there was no real motivation needed. Children laughed and laughed when Mrs Jeffery took part in their games with her real “Peter Pan” spirit.
It was wonderful to see how children took over the ownership of the design and the decoration. Not much prompting was needed. They can all be so proud of what they achieved!
And what about Mrs Jeffery and her “formal” afternoon at her daughter’s school? She summed it up perfectly: “You can’t do this work if you take yourself too seriously”.
That’s the spirit!
